Wishes Jazz Man Scotty stood outside Uhura's quarters trying to decide whether or not to go in. He wanted to find out it Uhura had recovered after the incident with Sybok - and to find out if she remembered what had happened in sickbay. He almost hoped she had no memory of the incident, that would certainly make things easier for him. On the other hand if she did remember and more importantly if she had meant what she had said . . . You'll never find out standing in the corridor, man, he thought to himself as he rang the door chime. It seemed forever to him before Uhura came to answer the door. To Scotty's relief she was still in uniform. "Scotty," she said, "Come on in." He entered far enough for the door to close. "I just wanted to see how you were after," he paused moving over to Uhura's couch. "After Sybok, after all that happened." Uhura smiled at him, "I'm all right, but I could do with a good night's sleep." He made as if to stand, "I'll leave you to it then." "Wait. I didn't mean just yet." She sat down on a low chair opposite him. "Have you recovered after that hit you took?" He grinned, "That was a damnfool thing t' hae done. And here I thought I knew this lady well." "I've no doubt you do, Scotty," she said reaching over to take his hand. He looked down at her hand and turned his own so that their fingers were interlaced. "In the sickbay you where talking about things you had wanted to do." He finally looked up at her. "How much of it was true?" Her eyes twinkled, "You mean about us, Mr Scott?" He nodded, "Aye." "How much would you like to be true?" "Oh, most all of it." She moved across to the couch, leaned forward and kissed him gently. "Your wish is my command." Afterwards she lay curled against him happy and relaxed. "We should have done this a long time ago." "Maybe, but were either of us ready then? I don't know if I was, but then for a long time I thought you were otherwise engaged." "You mean with Sulu?" He nodded. "How long did it take you to realise that wasn't likely to happen?" "Right about the time Pavel and he formalised things." He shook his head; "It seems I've been blind to a great many things. But then some o' them I just could not bring myself to believe." "Well believe it, Mister," she said kissing him. "I just wish we'd started earlier." "There's no point crying over the past, when you could live in the present instead, love." "Care to put that to the test?" "Your wish is my command." END
